Does The Kindle DX Have A Future?

by on Jul.13, 2011, under Leasing, Life, Uncategorized

Fans of the Amazon Kindle family of e readers have been somewhat anxious over the speculation that Amazon will be releasing a tablet computer of their own to compete with the Apple iPad later this year. The fear is that a new Amazon tablet would be a replacement for the Kindle rather than an addition to the Amazon product range.

So seriously were these concerns taken that Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, felt the need to make a press announcement that Amazon would be continuing with a “dedicated reading device” in future. However, some industry watchers are predicting a price of around $ 349 for the new Amazon tablet. In such a case, whilst the Kindle 3 may be safe, you might have to doubt the long term viability of the larger DX, which sells for $ 379 at the moment.

It’s difficult to envisage that many customers would be ready to pay a premium for the Kindle DX over a new Amazon tablet. Of course, it’s not out of the question that Amazon may choose to extend the life of the DX by selling it at a significantly lower price. Only time will tell.
